I think we need to step back and get details details details.
At first all I heard was buttons didn't say anything but button. This
topic came up on the list several times and we pointed out that you
simply need to enable the speak unlabeled graphics verbosity (as Rod so
nicely restated) because these buttons were not labeled properly. Yes,
as much as you don't like this, that is a badly design web page if they
don't label their buttons. So if the button isn't labeled the best we
can do is speak the name of the graphic that the web developers used to
display an image on the screen (which represents the visual button).
That graphic could of been named something nice like "login.gif" or ugly
like "8382DKD.gif". Again, this is up to the web developers.
Without details of the specific buttons I am left with only guesses.
These guesses tend to get you upset if they are not correct. One guess
is the facebook web page has changed...or maybe this is a Window-Eyes
bug... but again, I can't tell without details. So please give me step
by step details of the button in question and I'll see exactly how it is
labeled and why Window-Eyes is reading what it is reading.

Hi Rod,
I did that and yes those buttons did speak then, but there was two
lines of letters and numbers spoken before example: facebook book
buttons it finally said the name of the button. My question is is that
these buttons read correctly in 8.4. So why can’t they read correctly
in 9?

Hi,
The new browse mode implementation means that certain elements which
were spoken automatically are not done so in my experience, as is yours.
I had to turn on a setting which is off by default to speak unlabelled
buttons on my grocery ordering site.
You find it under Verbosity, Browse mode, Miscellaneous, and tab over
to the pair of controls named Speak unlabelled graphics.
You could leave the Scope the same, but change the next radio button
from No to Yes.
This will certainly cause more unlabelled graphics such as buttons to
be spoken, and yet you probably will notice more web page verbosity
rather than less, which is a trade-off.
Cheers,
Rod

Hi, One of the problems was that everytime I tried to send a message
to this list that consisted of more than one line it bounced back.
After FWD’ing about a dozen messages that had been bounced back to me
from this list, I was told it was my email provider, I spent an hour
on the phone with them to find out that it was not my providers fault.
Then today I got a message from support telling me that they had made
a couple of changes and to try the list. It now works.
So, Ok here goes...
Empire back website After entering user name in the personal edit box
there is a log in button. In WE 9 it no longer says login button, it
only says “button” It always read as “login button” before WE 9.
M.Facebook on the home page there are three buttons “add photos, check
in, more” they have always read correctly befor and now with WE 9 all
I hear is button, button, button...
On Craigs list, which I use daily in my work I now hear a lot of extra
stuff read that isn’t on the screen which makes it take longer to read
through the adds.

Tony and John and others.
I think harshness for a product like window eyes, is a bit out of line.
While there were bumps Tony, you have never told anyone on this list
what problems you have been having, if you would maybe we could help
you resolve them?

Hi John,
yep! Isn’t it sad when a free program out performs a paid on n and
the company uses the free one to compare.

i totally agree with you, this upgrade is a load of rubbish, you
can’t even reply to an email and read or correct what you have
written, i am now using NVDA, at least it does what it is meant
to, all the best, john.

Hello all,
I’d like to say thanks for efforts with WLM and other issues. I
try not to get frustrated about these issues, but when everytime
there is an issue the first answer is it the web developers fault,
which a lot of times is true. However, as an “enduser” who is
using the product and when a new version of that product comes out
with “improvements” and what I experience is anything but
improvements!!! Web pages that use to read great now have a bunch
of stuff that isn’t on the screen, other pages with buttons that
used to read correctly no longer do. I don’t really give a rats
ass whose fault it is, all I know and care about is that it used
to work great and now it doesn’t, and if the only change that has
been made is with the screen reader then it must be the screen
reader. People who are still using the earlier version of it have
no problem the pages still read as they always have. So as far as
I can see the “up-grade” wasn’t an upgrade.
