Hello Bill and Mark,

I use the Paste Special menu options all the time, and, yes, they are easily
accessed from the keyboard!

First, I use the F8 select command on a web page to copy part or all of the
web page. Then I go to an open Word document, and finally I press the Alt
key and press H, V, S. A menu appears which you can move through with the
Up and Down arrow keys. Press the Enter key when you are on the desired
menu item.

It works great with F8 selection to insert stuff into a document with the
format you desire.

In fact, it works better in Window-Eyes 9.0 with F8 selection than ever
before. I usually pick the Unicode Text option so to preserve all the
Unicode characters that may be on a web page.

Bill,

I am aware of advanced copy/paste options in Microsoft Office products. Is
this what you are asking about? If I copy text from the web and then go to
paste it into an Office application, I am given options for paste special
via small pop-up window. While this pop-up window can be difficult to access
from the keyboard, you can access the same options in the Home tab of the
Ribbon under the Clipboard group. The Paste button in this group has a drop
down menu with all of the same options that are presented in the Paste
Special pop-up window (Keep source formatting/K, Merge formatting/M, Keep
text only/T). So, if you want to use Paste Special, instead of pressing
Control-V, use this Paste drop down menu in the Ribbon. Give this a try and
if it doesn't work as advertised, please let us know. But, when you do be
sure to include the following details:

1. Testing environment: operating system, web browser and versions,
Window-Eyes version, speech synthesizer being used, Office version

2. Exact steps to duplicate the problem

3. Expected results

4. Current results

Thanks,

Marc

Another way the text selection does not currently work correctly, in my
opinion, is there seems no way to do a paste special command. Usually
without a screen reader I believe you can use this command to choose whether
you want to keep the original formatting or use the destination formatting.
Perhaps something like pressing Enter for original formatting, spacebar to
use the copied text formatting?

Subject: Some insight regarding text selection in Browse Mode

Hello everyone,

There has been quite a few messages regarding this topic and I wanted to
take a few minutes to share my thoughts. In earlier versions of Window-Eyes,
prior to version 9, you could use the same keyboard commands to select text
in Browse Mode as you could in applications that have a text cursor such as
Notepad, Microsoft Word, etc. As many of you know, these text selection
keyboard commands are not currently available in Window-Eyes 9. I am
referring to commands such as Shift-Left/Right Arrow, Shift-Up/Down Arrow,
Control-Shift-Left/Right Arrow to select by character, line and word. I want
to clarifying that these commands are not built into web browsers like they
are in Notepad and Microsoft Word. In order for these commands to work in
Browse Mode, the Ai Squared developers have to create special programming to
support this functionality. And, this feature request is certainly on our to
do list. While I am not a Window-Eyes developer, I have spoken to those who
are very knowledgeable about the inner workings of the product. My
understanding is that the Shift selection commands would use much of the
same code used to implement the F8 text selection method. In other words,
the F8 text selection code is really the foundation that underlies all of
the other work that would need to be done to implement the Shift based text
selection. So, in order to get there, we first need to make sure that the F8
text selection method is as reliable as possible. I have encountered
situations where the F8 text selection method, that is currently available
in the Window-Eyes 9 Browse Mode, fails to produce the expected results. No
software is perfect, and Window-Eyes, just like all other software
applications has bugs that need to be fixed. We need your help identifying
these problems so we can work on fixing them. If you are able to
consistently duplicate an issue relating to F8 text selection, please share
your findings with us so we can work on fixing the problem. Here is the
information we would need you to provide when reporting a problem to the
GW-Info list or directly to our support team:

1. Testing environment: operating system, web browser and versions,
Window-Eyes version, speech synthesizer being used

2. Exact steps to duplicate the problem

3. Expected results

4. Current results

Ai Squared is committed to our customers and making Window-Eyes the best
product it can be. Let's continue to work together as a community to provide
constructive and helpful feedback that can enable the Window-Eyes
development team to solve these and other types of complex computer access
challenges.

Kind Regards,
