I'm a little late on this thread, but our isp is one that uses Port 587, exactly one of the problem ports. Though I do most of my mailing from the desktop or the laptop, what's the answer for me if I do want to use the Braille Sense as I'm listening to an audio stream in my room? <smile> I take it www.authsmtp.com is a proxy?

The most common problem with problems sending from the Sense notetakers is that the isp is forcing tls or is forcing another smtp port. If the isp you use allows connections on port 25 or ssl connections on port 465 then it just works. If however tls is forced such as in port 587 then there might be problems. Also, when entering Email information, make sure you use computer Braille. Make sure that you fill in a username and password under the advanced options of the service manager because some isps require smtp authentication. So this works, but it sometimes takes a little tweaking. The service you describe is good for situations like where an isp is not accessible from other places or if you want to have minimal fuss when trying to send out Email so this is a good solution.
