Hi Jim,

The only daisy content which wouldn't show on a braille display would be if the daisy book has an audio component. In the situation such as with a bookshare daisy book which is text only, that text will be shown on the braille display. Same with the newsline daisy files.

As for .brf and all other formats including web pages, they are all shown on a braille display and are also spoken if you have speech turned on.

An example of something which would not show the content on a braille display would be an audible book. But, the title information and playing times are shown on the display.

Does this answer your question?

Don

Hi Don,

I probably should write you privately but my question may have appeal to the
entire list.

I'm assuming when listening to a Daisy file, the text from the Daisy File doesn't show on an external Braille Display! Is this correct! If my hunch
is correct, loading the web page would have the material show on the
display! I assume that is right! Also, if material was in dot BRF file
format, this would show on my Display if I had one! Is this correct?

Thanks much!

Jim

Hi Jim,

Yes, I think the site went live just yesterday or maybe the day before,
but they'll get the kinks worked out.

I still have to play with it a bit more to figure out just how
everything works. I receive the email newsline every day, but I really
like this approach better as I find the daisy files a bit difficult
since you have to depend on the internal reading voice to get the
material unless you're using braille. And, I can't stand the two stream
voices even though I really like all other aspects of the machine.

I know Raul said they are looking at making the daisy interface much
easier to use in the sense products and I certainly hope that happens
sooner than later as I really don't mind the sense voice.

But, definitely getting several options to choose from now and that's a
good thing.

It really wasn't all that long ago when blind people just didn't have
easy access to complete newspapers period. How time have changed. But,
we're still picky aren't we? <grin>

Hi Don,

Yes! I think it works quite well even though one pretty much gets the
entire
paper all at once! I haven't figured out how to find what I wish to
read
easily but it simply is a matter of becoming more familiar with the
paper.

I just had it emailed to me and got the daisy files that way! I
believe now
one can simply have it come in as an email on request rather than
requesting
Emails and getting every updated issue which calls for allot of Email. Imagine one can still do this but now one can simply have it come down
when
they want it! At least, I hope this is so! One can download these
files to
Victor Stream and Icon or Braille Plus but don't know whether Sense
products
are supported yet! For now, we have quite a few choices thus far!

Take care!

Jim

Take care!

Oh! I thought you got it as an actual direct download from a link.
What you did makes good sense.

Thanks,

Don

Hi Don,

Click on the full paper. You will have it right there for you as an
HTML
page. Simply press spacebar with S to save it, and accept the
filename as I
did and you are good to go. It will go into your downloads folder.
That
seems to work reasonably well but I would like to see a way to
download
rather than Email the daisy files into the Voice Sense.

I agree! This on line newsline is awesome. They have some things to
work
out but that's apart of being something new! If you learn something
more,
please pass it along!

Jim,

How did you download it from there? I didn't see a link for
download,
but I do like the site, especially with the sense. You get all the
information and don't have to fool with the daisy format at all.

I went to my favorites and selected a paper. I could see the entire
paper, a section, etc., but no download link.

Hi all!

Has anyone on this list tried the new newsline on line? YOu can go
to
it by
going to:
http://www.newslineonline.org
YOu need to have handy your six digit security code and four digit
password.
It is the same ones used on the phone line.

I actually downloaded with my Voice Sense the local paper with .htm
extension. That worked fine. That file went to my downloads folder
in the
VS.

They have on their site a way to download content to a Victor Stream
and
Icon or Braille Plus. What about the Sense Products? Is there a
way
to
fake a setting as the Braille Plus setting to work with the VS? Or,
in the
future will there be a way to connect VS to PC and download or copy
over the
daisy files?

Thanks!

Jim
