Judi, I am planning on buying a Voice Sense with a
SyncBraille. I tend to email some documents, but use
them mostly on my notetaker. I do not have Duxbury on
my netbook computer so what format would you recommend
files to be in if I want to print them from a SD card
that I have used on the VS? Can I set the VS to do all
documents in .doc, or .txt, format? Can I make
revisions from my netbook, or VS, with no problems, or
should there be a way to do corrections to documents?
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm trying to work out
what to do with the VS documents. I have used qwerty
notetakers for years, and have decided to go back to
using braille style notetakers, now. I am needing to
relearn what symbols to use, and when. Trying to
prepare myself before receiving the VS. smile.

Thank you Paul for that nice thought. Also you should
do all of your
editing in the .doc file. Bring the file into Duxbury
and make a .brf
file. This you can proof on your Braille Sense. While
proofing on the
Braille Sense I put a mark such as a series of (for)
signs if something
needs correcting. I can then easily search for these
and fix the .doc
file on the computer as I go. It works nicely.

There are a couple of additional issues here. A .brf
file can be
challenging to work with in Duxbury. Text is more
difficult to move
around. You will do much better using a .doc file as a
txt file will
not wrap the lines correctly. I'm a braille transcriber
and know these
challenges by experience.

There may be a more elegant solution for the problem
than this one but
here is one way to get around the problem.
Begin by saving your bsp file as a text or doc file.
You will be able
to work on it on your pc, then. Import the file back
into your bsp as a
doc or txt file and save it as a brf file. The brf
file can then be
imported into the computer and thence to Duxbury, if
you like. You, of
course, could simply start with a doc or txt file in
the pc and use that
for translation or embossing.

I have a very old version of duxbury on my pc, when I
save files the
endings are .dxp and .dxb the bsp doesn't recognize
these formats. there
is an option to save as a .txt file but when I open
this in the bsp the
file is full of $ and multiple other signs.
We have a script for a play that I want to edit and be
able to transfer
back and forth between the bsp and my version of
duxbury if at all
possible.
I
can't emboss directly from the bsp because my embosser
doesn't have the
right connections, it's an old blazy blazer and I don't
know if the bsp
even supports it. Anyway if anyone has any suggestions
for doing this
I'd appreciate it.
I got duxbury in 99 so yes it's very out of date and
perhaps there's no
hope for this project until I get a current version. I
am having a real
challenge editing just in duxbury itself because it was
designed for
windows 95 according to the "about" item in the help
menu and though it
works with xp it causes the pc to crash after every 5
or 10 changes in
text. So, you can see why I'm looking for alternatives.
