I've never had the pleasure of using the sync braille. As far as I know though, it has two severe limitations. No bluetooth, and no input capability. It's ment to be a very stripped down and basic solution and probably does it's function very well. If I'm going to out thousands of dollars on a piece of hardware though, I want all the bells and whistles. Even if I don't think I'll use them, I won't get another shot for a very long time.
