Hello again! As some of you may remember I haven't been able to connect to the internet since I got cable for my TV, phone and internet. To make a long story short, Raul said The Sense products only work with TKIP connections, not AES. Since that time, I purchased a new windows seven 64 bit PC. It too describes my connection as AES. As I stated previously, I can't detect any signal from my wireless router with the VS even though I could be inches from the router! I can go outside and see other signals in the neighborhood even though most of these hav WEP or WPA incription. If I plug in my old router which isn't connected to the internet, that signal is detected with no difficulty! The question is what to do? Who is to blame here? We have been told that we don't need 64 bit computers even though GW Micro brought Window eyes up to speed with this! Perhaps we might be told we don't need AES either! Just go out and buy another wireless router! Keep trying till you find one which works with modem and VS! When the cable person set up our three computers at the time, didn't have number four yet, he was here for fifteen minutes to a half hour or so. He installed something called Digi-do on our Pcs. This software enables them to see from their end whether we are having connection problems or not, I guess this is what it does! I tried connecting to other wireless networks and turned off digi-do and my netbook worked just fine! When I got computer number four, the windows seven 64 bit machine, it worked fine with my network up to the time I installed digi-do onto it and all is still fine! If the VS could work with aES, I'm certain I wouldn't need to worry about digi-do with it! I placed the dash there so that the screen reader can read it more clearly! The computer tech didn't mess with router settings or anything like that! It lined up with their system with the digi-do software. I only needed to give him my WPA2 password so I could connect to the network! It was a slick operation to be sure! No doubt the high speed broad band connection might have sounded wonderful with the VS if it could connect!
I guess I tend to take the path of least resistance! I get very tired of the cable company telling me to contact the manufacturer of my PDA for a solution and GW Micro insisting I get another router or dumb down my internet security so the Voice Sense can connect! All four computers in this house, one of which is five or six years old connect fine to the cable AES connection! I'm certain the computer I have which crashed would have been able to connect as well if it were operational. Since my $350 netbook works just fine as well as the rest of the pcs in the house, why disrupt things for the VS? Perhaps getting a $60 linksys modem would be cheaper than a new I-pod touch but a sales person at Best Buy stated the I-pod touch works with Bresnan Communications cable Connections which may become Cable vision shortly! Yes! I miss my Voice sense! But if a PC which is five and six years old connects fine with AES, why should we have to worry about this with our notetakers? Why can't they be up to speed to work with most any internet connection? I use to blame the cable company! I'm starting to change my mind! Our blindness notetakers are behind the times, not up to date and we are paying dearly for it! I'm glad I simply bought the Voice Sense and not the Braille Sense Plus. I really would have been mad if my $6000 notetaker couldn't connect to the internet! A friend of mine recently moved and he too has a Bresnan Cable connection. He does have a Linksys modem and he connects to the web with his VS but cannot send or receive Email. Perhaps the upgrade will fix this! Time will tell! It is bad enough that one cannot play flash content even though flash isn't my favorite thing! Then this happens where I cannot connect! I either must have less of a secure network and buy another modem or simply write the VS off as a device which can go online here! I think that's the direction I'm going with this! May end up with that I-pod touch yet! Some are predicting the death of the notetaker and others say the windows mobile platform won't be supported after the end of this year! Who really can say? I'm hoping a solution can be found for the Sense products concerning this matter! I was so thrilled when the VS came out with a build in wireless adapter or whatever it is called! I wouldn't need to use a Wy FI CF card again! Now, we are faced with aES and as far as I know, the Sense products cannot work with aES connections. I'm wondering whether this is a problem with the APEX, Braille Plus and Icon as well? If so, most blindness products need to come up to speed with this! I shouldn't have to worry about connecting to internet if the vS would support what my $350 netbook supports! Perhaps there are too many limitations with mobile windows platform five specifically, I really don't know! Here's hoping there is a solution for this problem! I think too Hymns Braille Displays should meet the HID (human Interface Device) standards. They can work with device drivers or connect directly to a PC and work! One can get such displays which don't work on the Voice Sense to my knowledge and the sync Braille only works with Voice sense! So round and round we go! How nice it would be if the Sync Braille could work with I-phones, I-pod touch, I-pad and a host of other things! This would make this investment a more reasonable one! I of course know technology changes so quickly but why can't what we pay dearly for be up to speed with both secure and non secure networks, TKiP and AES as well as HID. I'm afraid if this is not addressed, more and more people are going to opt for the I-phones, I-pod touch and other mainstream products. If I want my streams back, I'll need to persue that I-pod Touch since the I-phone isn't yet available out where I'm living. GW Micro is a wonderful company but I'm wondering how might this be solved! I'm not trying to be a pill here! I run into this type of discussion all the time! Yes! I've heard about the limited market and on it goes but I think Hymns and GW Micro need to find a solution to this! Oh yes! Almost forgot! Window Eyes works fine on this $350 netbook and I'm using it to write this post! Thanks for your time and thanks for reading!
