Vicky,
What is the protective cover for?
I don't have the on-hand but just wondered.

Subject: [GWN] some initial observations with the Braille Sense OnHand
First, and I'm guessing someone has already noticed this, but the extras
help, meaning hitting H and then C from the main program menu, doesn't
work properly. One gets the message unsupported document type, and then
the document opens with no text there to bee read.
Next, and I believe that Don Bishop said the Braille Sense OnHand sounds
much better than the Voice Sense. And, maybe it does, but the speaker
volume doesn't seem to go quite as loud on the OnHand as it does on the
VS.
Also, for that matter, when playing back recordings made on the OnHand,
the volume of those recordings is noticeably lower than that on the VS.
Or, maybe they can be made to be louder and I just don't know exactly what
I'm doing, although I do have the media and voice volumes turned up pretty
high. Actually, I don't use the recording feature all that much, but was
just testing it out using the internal microphone and its default
settings.
Next, although I think things have settled down now with the second
charging up of the battery on the OnHand; but, when I charged up the
battery for the first time, it stayed at the one percent level for quite
sometime, maybe a half hour or so, before continuing to give higher
percents of being charged. It then changed percentages every few minutes
or so till it got to twenty-five percent. Then, when I next looked about
a half hour later, it had jumped up to one hundred percent charged. And,
seeing as I had charged the unit for about three hours, I unplugged it and
assumed it to be fully charged. Now, as I'm charging it up again, it is
giving a more normal percentage rate all the way through, now being at
seventy-three percent.
Next, the internal GPS receiver is working better than I expected. Oh,
not as well as an external one, but good enough for me to walk around the
block yesterday and get a signal when I got to the first corner and have
it tell me the correct intersection. It then kept the signal and correct
location all through my little walk.
Next, I had no trouble at all getting my OnHand set up-well, except for
that protective cover that I still haven't gotten figured out. I was able
to copy most of my files and settings over from the VS, as I have
everything backed up on both a USB drive and a S D card. I actually have
a backup on a compact flash card as well, but guess the Voice Sense is the
only note taker I have now that will use that card. But, at any rate, I'm
able to browse the web and send and receive email without any problems.
Oh, yes, finally for now, grin, this shorter cord on the A C adapter, I'm
noticing that more myself now with the OnHand. For, with the place for
the adapter being on the right side of the VS, I could just barely make it
reach to the outlet I wanted to use and still use the VS on my lap.
However, sitting in the same place and trying to use the OnHand with the
hole for the adapter on the left side of the unit, I just can't quite make
it reach. Thus, when charging it up and using it at the same time, I keep
the OnHand on the arm of my couch, rather than in my lap.
