What if you disable any extra protocols and/or service plugins you don't
use?

Pidgin uses GTK and is therefore completely inaccessible in Windows.
If you are interested in a multiprotocol IM client, I've scripted
Miranda IM from www.miranda-im.org/. A guide on setting it up is at
