I am not a professional programmer, but the way I got started was to work
with every script in the Window-Eyes scripting manual.
I started with the old "Hello World" script, and worked through every
example I could find.
Along the way, I started modifying the examples I found.
I also try to read everything I can find on VBScripting!
Some things I am not interested in at this time, such as using vbScripts in
web pages; however, I have found things on this topic, and I have waded
through some things and pulled out some interesting things which I could
modify for my own use.
I have also studied the code in many scripts which were submitted by other
users and I have learned a lot from them.
Aside from reading, every time I find a script example that does something
useful, I add it to my script library. Many short scripts are in my
library, and they are named so I know just what they do.
Feel free to ask questions. I have asked many, and I have gotten the
answers that I wanted 99 percent of the time.
Hope this helps,
Jeff Weiss

Subject: Just an interduction and a newbie question or three.
Hello,
I thought I would give a hello out there to all of you scripters, and
perhaps if there are, people like me who wish they were scripters! My
name is Tj, and I've been a Jaws user for most of my computer using life.
The reason I say most is because a couple of weeks ago, I have started
getting into using Window Eyes, and enjoy the process. Unfortunately, I
only still have the demo, however, rectifying this will happen on Monday!
Anyhow, now that's out of the way, I would like to say one of the biggest
things that has attracted me to Window Eyes is it's inovative and, well,
to some I'm sure, easy to use scripting process. For me, though, it's
hard!
Having said that, I've got a couple of questions for those that are
experienced script writers (or should I say app now). The question is,
how did you get started? I've devoured the two CSUN 2009 script
recordings, the two online intro webinars, and I will finish the last
couple today, however, I find myself with a little problem. Although i'm
sure that it's explained verry thurrowly in the three day beginners
training course I don't have the money to attend. I'm just a poor college
student after all! How did you guys get started? While I find the
classes that are provided online verry helpful in assisting in
understanding the process, I found myself still a bit clueless after the
fact. I delved into the scripting manual and found out that objects
return objects wich you can use to return objects. An example is the
activeWindow.clips object returns a clip object which if I search through
that clip object I'll get a bigger list of clips objects...which I can no
dout figure out with patients and time, however, I guess I should just
come straight out and ask the question, eh? I have an issue of wanting to
jump into thigns that I'm too small for (scripting the skype options
dialogue to become accessible for instance), however, I can't seem to
figure out what sort of things I should do to increase my knowledge of the
WE object moddle. What kinds of basic, newbie scripts, did all of you
start with? And are there any tutorials I've missed? Thanks for stickign
with me on such a long-winded post. I hope to contribute to GW's customer
base, and hopefully, the App Central's list of contributers at some point
in the future!
Thanks,
Tj
