You are correct. Miranda does support Yahoo messenger, along with a number of other clients - and that is RIGHT out of the box. There does exist a small app, that enhances the software a bit, and litterally hundreds of addons that will increase your chance to taylor the software to your likings. And, at top of it all, there is available a podcast - about an hour long - that walks you through the installation, setup and use of Miranda, in connection with WE, and even leaves you with a handful useful tips.

OK, we see this question coming up from time to time. Not just for Yahoo messenger, but for other IM software as well. And, I can understand the wish for alternatives. Alternatives for the user to choose from. Fact is, though, that if you want an alternative, you likely do so because it would somehow fill your needs the better. Far as I can see, even with a well-written app, none of these individual IM software, would ever be filling your needs more fully. Simply because, they first of all lock you to ONE service. Secondly, I am not aware that any of the individual IM packages does have that many addons, if any at all, that could help you in tayloring the client to all the things Miranda can do. And, if I am not wrong, Miranda is released under GPL, which means you even could fix its native code - if you so desire and endeavor - thereby making it even mor screen reader friendly.

Guys, please let's try to ask for apps that will make real alternatives. That will make software accessible, for which there is no alternatives, or which would help out a private budget, or which would in any way increase our experience. Things like IM software, would be rather time consuming to develop apps for, specially because there is so many different clients out there, and they all come with new versions ever so often. Good enough, if any of them would prove to be superior to the others. But as the matter stands, no single one would prove to be exactly that. Then comes on the market, a more or less fully accessible, totally free software, that even could be worked right out of the box; and that leaves you totally independent when comes to choice of your favorite client. Much like a shell software, that opens up for you to operate whichever of the popular IM clients on the net, inside a standard environment, where you could get help from other users - since they would all be operating under the same environment, no matter which client they connect to - and it is called Miranda IM.

Sorry for being a bit outspoken, but it would be somehow foolish to make any further efforts at the moment to script any of the individual IM clients. At the best, you would get something that works OK inside that particular client; but which will prove totally useless in any of the others. And, as I see it, there is actually no REAL benefit in installing Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger, or any other IM client on your computer - only to find yourself messing around with little accessible software - all the time, you can simply install Miranda IM in a couple of minutes, and operate any of your IM accounts fully accessible through that one software. Scripting any individual IM client, would simply not make any real alternative choice for the user. It's like going to McDonald and ask for them to make a milkshake without any milk.

I don't know.

I don't use IM/chat programs, but I thought there existed one called Moranda
which worked with all the existing protocols, and which was accessible or
which had scripts already?

If that's the case, then why would someone write for Yahoo Messenger?

Nor arguing, just asking for some information.

thanks.

Chip

I too am really sorry to hear about this Tom.

I told my wife, as we were building our house some years ago, (she didn't
like the look of some solution we came up with for dealing with possible
water), I told her "water is the enemy!" I had to keep repeating it
throughout the construction project.

We took some lightning damage some years ago, and lost many thousands of
dollars in electronics, but still I'd say water is the thing we do, and
should, always be concerned about. (BTW, if you haven't had a topo survey
done, I'd recommend it as being very helpful when having professionals
design water handling solutions for you).

Thanks for the info on Sound Forge; it sounds as big and messy as I
thought
it might be (no, worse!).

Would you know what's the status of using Sound Forge with a competitor's
product? I know Jeff Bishop mentioned one of the reasons he did the
WinAmp
app initially was to show Window-Eyes could do a better job of handling
accessibility/useability issues with it's new scripting model. Maybe
someone else would feel motivated by similar feelings (as well as possible
profits) to take this one on, if there's hope We could end up being a
better
platform to work with Sound Forge.

thanks.

Chip

Thanks, Tim. Yeah, a bummer indeed. And after removing about 6 feet of
clay-filled soil on 3 sides, filling it back in with rocky gravel, and
putting in about 5 miles of drainage pipes heading every which way but
loose
the damn water is still trickling in a little bit. It's amazing how
unstoppable water is. I remember the day the job was finally finished. I
was
outside chatting with the guys who did the work, with a bulldozer,
backhoe,
and 18-wheeler dump truck surrounding the place, and they said there's
absolutely no way in hell another drop of water could possibly get in.
Well,
about 2 weeks later, there it was. And so it goes.

Regards,
Tom

Just to clarify, Sound Forge is a professional audio mastering suite.
It's an audio editor like a word processor. You can cut, copy, paste,
delete, move, fade in and out, layer, and so on. But the real
processing that sets it far apart from something like Gold Wave is
that it comes right out of the box with 50 something processing
plug-ins; equalizers, compressors, gates, reverbs, and so on and so
on. And that's just what comes with it. There are endless other plug-ins
you can add.

I started scripting it ages ago. The MSAA implementation turned out to
be a huge mess that wasted a couple months of my time after I
discovered exception after exception after exception wherein it would
return bogus information. So anyone interested in scripting it, be
forewarned.

I keep thinking I'll get back to it, but my studio was destroyed in a
flood and remains as gutted and empty as it made my bank account. So I
haven't much incentive seeing as I seldom use it any more and have
other work obligations consuming my time. And I got to know it inside
and out prior to scripting anyway.

Regards,
Tom

so far, my look shows me an SDK for developing add-ons, which might
be hugely helpful for anyone who wanted to develop sound forge apps for
WE.

Is this really needed though with winamp being available? I'm not
sure if they do the same thing or not, but thought I'd ask.

Hi, sound forge pro, or studio they are quite similar though pro has
a lot more when you consider the sound processing it can do.

I thought I'd at least have a look ... but I don't know anything about
it.

Were you meaning, Sound Forge, Sound Forge Audio Studio, or Sound
Forge/pro?
