No proxy. The XP machine has been running the same firewall (Ashampoo) for a couple of years now, with no other troubles. The Win8 system, has the built-in firewall of Win8 itself turned on, no further firewall.
The XP machine is running Microsoft Essentials, whilst the Win8 system is running AVG 2013 free edition. Both systems have been checked with Malwarebytes, SpyBot search & Destroy, and on the XP machine SuperAntiSpyware has been running for a handful years as well. Going to install WE8.2 on a Win7 system one of the next days, and will report back, if same trouble shows up on that system as well. Could it all be, due to me running a locale version of Window-Eyes, and something in the AppGet does get messed up from that part of the story? Just trying to think of possible reasons why I see this behavior. ----- Original Message ----- From: Stephen Clower To: [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, June 05, 2013 3:31 PM Subject: Re: AppGet hanging David, Are you using any proxies or firewalls on either machine? Only when using the appget, I am running into this silly problem. Puzzles me, since nobody else seem to have this trouble, and still it shows up both on my old XP system, and a rather newly installed Win8 computer. Thought I could have missed out on some setting, or there could have been a messy system on my old installation, but with an all clean installation of WE, this should not be an issue either. ----- Original Message ----- From: Aaron Smith To: [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, June 05, 2013 2:10 PM Subject: Re: AppGet hanging I'm also unable to duplicate this behavior. Does it happen every time you install an app with AppGet? What if you install an app manually by downloading first from App Central? I will add your suggestion of downloading multiple apps at once to the wish list. Best regards from Ohio, Vic From: David [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, June 05, 2013 5:46 AM To: [email protected] Cc: [email protected] Subject: AppGet hanging This issue, has been going on for a little while. Yet, I thought it was due to an older installation of WE, with several upgrades performed, and thereby something had got messed up. Now, a little more than a week ago, I finally received the CD for installing WE8.2. Hence, I decided to go from the very scratch. I uninstalled all my old WE version, even used the Emergency remover, and gave the system a full cleanup, and vacuumed the registry just to make sure as clean an environment as possible. Then installed a fresh WE8.2, directly off the CD. Everything went OK, and I then let the system perform an upgrade to any of the apps installed. Then I wanted to install some extra apps, that I find useful. I use the AppGet feature, and find my app of interest. Then press Enter, and get the installation screen. Here, I hit the Install button, and if necessary confirm my accept of the license agreement. Then, WE claims that the app has been installed, and I sure can see the effect of the app in function. Yet, the installation screen for the app, keeps open. Presseing Escape, to close it, only result in the installation screen opening a second copy of itself. And When Alt-Tabbing, I can reach the AppGet dialog. Here, I can find the Close button, but pressing space or Enter on that button, performs absolutely nothing. The only way to close down the whole app installation set of dialogs, is to shut down WE, and restart it. Same behavior displays on both my XP machine, and the Windows8 machine I am trying to learn to use. What could possibly be going on? Is this due to a bug in the AppGet app? If so, it has been there for a little while, approximately as long as the app has been encrypted. My WE is set to accept and run any apps, so I thought there would be no security issue blocking things, and they surely get installed and activated. Only the AppGet and installation dialogs won't let themselves close. In the same token, GW, could there please have been a way in the AppGet, to mark several apps for simultaneous installation. When a user knows exactly which apps he wants to install, I would have liked to check all the apps of interest, and then hit the install button, and all the downloading and installation would get started. -- Aaron Smith Web Development * App Development * Product Support Specialist GW Micro, Inc. * 725 Airport North Office Park, Fort Wayne, IN 46825 260-489-3671 * gwmicro.com To insure that you receive proper support, please include all past correspondence (where applicable), and any relevant information pertinent to your situation when submitting a problem report to the GW Micro Technical Support Team. -- Stephen Clower Product support specialist & App Development GW Micro, Inc. * 725 Airport North Office Park, Fort Wayne, IN 46825 260-489-3671 * gwmicro.com
