I'm not trying to upstage Tony's trip to Mt. Airy to ride the Tour de Gaps
route, just throwing out some other options for groups or individuals that
might want to make a day trip to Pilot for some hilly/mountain training.

I have an old friend that rides with Mock Orange Bicycles (MOB) which is a
shop in downtown Winston-Salem. My parents live that way and while I was
home during the holidays he told me during the off season they lead shop
rides every Saturday. That particular weekend they had ridden from the shop
to Pilot Mountain and back. The mileage for this out and back route was in
the mid 50s. I contacted MOB to get more details and find out if they would
mind anyone tagging along. The MOB cycling team lead off season training
rides from the shop every Saturday at 10:00. He said they don't climb Pilot
every weekend, more often they head south for the rolling terrain instead of
north to the mountains for their off season rides. Similar to the Gyros,
they sent out an email about mid-week stating that weeks ride. I am now on
the email distribution list. If anyone is interested I can inform the group
the next time they head to Pilot. The shop employee I talked to said they
would be more than happy to have a bunch of Gyros tag along on their shop
rides (they have A & B groups with guides doing the same routes). He also
said they could give us routes to do on our own leaving from the store or
anywhere that suits us.

I'm going to watch the emails and if they post a route that interests me I'm
going to try and make it.

If anyone is interested let me know and maybe we can work out
transportation.

Thanks,

Courtney
