I have an Edge 305 and an Edge 705. The 305 is a nice unit with no mapping
capability. You can, however, set up a course ahead of time and follow the
course. Its not quite turn by turn but it's close. I used my 305 for about a
season and a half and once I got comfortable with it, I stopped using cue
sheets on rides as Id just build the course ahead of time.

There have been some issues with the 305s randomly powering down when
hitting bumps but I think for the most part that was fixed. If not, Garmin's
customer service is top notch and they'd swap the unit if you had a problem.

Currently I use a 705 which Ive had for coming up on a year. Its relatively
bug free at this point and like the 305, took about a year to get that way.
The 705 has a larger screen, which is color and full mapping capability. One
thing it will do that the 305 will not is follow routes, which are basically
turn by turn directions with street names, etc. The 705 also will interface
with almost every power meter on the market and allow you to use it as your
power meters head unit.

The chest strap and cadence sensors are compatible between both units as
well.

If you have any other questions, feel free to email me off list.
