It was a great ride. We started with about 22 riders with some cutting it
short. With about 18 riders left we made a concerted effort to keep the
group together. Double paceline was tight, there were no surges and everyone
did the work up front. It was perfect.

Thanks to Fernando for helping Don, myself and another rider catch the main
group after the speedy climb up Doc. Once Fernando gets in that tuck
position it's all over for the competition. Thanks to Don for getting us to
work as a team. Thanks to Logan for putting me out front on the Doc and
letting me hang out there to dry. Hey, Logan, I really apreciated that!
And Tom was the 3rd guy to come in with Logan and Steve. Great job to you
three. One more thank you to Dave for giving me a wheel to hang on to as we
were trying to catch the lead three up Leesville on the final climb. We
knew it was impossible but we sure did give it the old college try. (My
heart didn't appreciate it though). And, oh, kudo's to Joel who rides that
old Vitus with 18th century Dura-Ace and tubular tires, who flatted btw, and
managed to ride with the group the whole way until about the last 8 miles.
Great job Joel.

Specs were 70 miles @ 19.5mph average. As Rick said, what a great day to be
alive and on the bike.

Tony

Gyros, (Did everyone turn those clocks ahead?)

What a great way to start the cycling season! Even though we had a couple of
mechanicals, and a coach (John?) who was a bit nervous about making the
start of his soccer game everyone stayed together and shared the work.

I think that I can speak for other riders when I say that riding near 4
hours was a concern since many of us have only been getting in 45 min rides
on the trainer (although Jim had mentioned something about doing 3 hours on
his trainer!).

But, the group dynamics were great and it was a really nice, controlled
ride. Tony laid out a great course, the weather could not have been better,
and it was simply a good day on the bike.

It was great to see Fernando again, who came to the front on Leesville to
help as we were trying to catch the front group (who, at that point were
just to far up the road). I thought that I would give it one more try and
took the lead up that final climb. Suddenly, Tony, Fernando, and just about
everyone else went by me and I was done. Gassed. Don rode at my slowing pace
and offered some sympathetic words...thanks, Don!

Anyway, great riding by Logan, Steve, and, I am not sure who else was in
that lead group. I few more rides like this, and a few less pounds and our A
group will be back in form!

Rick
