B Group ... For our safety ... 1) If this is your first time or if it's been a while since you cycled with us please be courteous and contact me prior to showing up for our group ride. 2) Saturday B Group averages 16 mph and is a no drop ride. Please contact Tony ([email protected]) for an alternate ride if this pace does not meet your cycling needs. 3) B group was created 2 years ago and based on the Gyro categories/levels web page (http://www.raleighgyros.com/rides.htm) therefore our group rides are for experienced cyclists with substantial group riding experience. We offer the Sunday Touring ride for those without this experience. Let's meet at PUE 7:30am for this 62 mile route (RangeEnonRange cue sheet is attached). Leslie leads our shorter 40 mile route and also meets at PUE 7:30 am. We will ride together to the first rest stop and then split (Bike Route cue sheet is attached). For the A Group - I have attached the cue sheet and copied the map for our route Saturday. This is 68 miles which is a bit shorter than what we have been doing but don't be fooled. There is a lot of climbing so I guarantee there will be some tired legs. The "Ruleless" section of this route will be on Cannady Mill when we turn onto it from Tommie Snead. It is a long section, about 7 miles, which will continue all the way to the rest stop in Wilton on Hwy 96 & 56. For those of you who haven't expereinced this with us before, "RULELESS" means that the pace picks up and it's every man for himself until we regroup at specified points. There is only one section on this route that we'll do this because of the shorter distance and the amount of climbing involved. Remember that we also encourage county line sprints. The rest of the time, the group works TOGETHER until we get close to the finish when it again becomes every man for himself. (Please bring a cue sheet if you are dropped by the group). Here is the ride schedule: SATURDAY RIDE (7/18): (A GROUP - Tony) MEETING PLACE: Pleasant Union Elementary School (Alias PUE) - (Directions: http://www.raleighgyros.com/locations.htm) TIME: Saturday 7/18 @ 7am RIDE DISTANCE: 68 miles PACE: 20-21mph LSD ROUTE: "Four Loops" CUE SHEET: See attached MAP: <http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2998610> http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2998610 (B GROUP - Maria & Leslie) Maria & Leslie will post the information for their rides. SUNDAY RIDE (7/19): 1. Kim's Recovery Ride leaves from Blue Jay Point @ 8am. (38 miles @ 17-18mph pace) (Gary Rohlke will be taking over this ride temporarily) 2. Mike's Gyro Touring Ride - Mike will post all the information for this ride. MONDAY RIDE (7/20): Hal's Ride leaves from the Trek Store on Durant Road & Raven Ridge Roads. TIME @ 6pm. DISTANCE: 25-30 miles. PACE @ 18mph (NOTE: THIS RIDE WILL BE ON ONLY IF SOMEONE POSTS TO LEAD) TUESDAY RIDE (7/21): Rick's Ride leaves from St Francis of Assisi Church. TIME @ 6pm. DISTANCE: 31 miles PACE @ 22-23mph WEDNESDAY (7/22): Andy's Ride leaves from St Francis of Assisi Church. TIME @ 5:45pm. DISTANCE: 39 miles. PACE @ 20-21mph (Controlled) THURSDAY (7/23) Dave's Ride leaves from the Trek Store on Durant & Raven Ridge Roads. TIME @ 6pm. DISTANCE: 32 miles. PACE @ 17-18mph All ride locations can be found on our website @ http://www.raleighgyros.com/locations.htm THE PLAN: One or more groups will leave with the intent of riding as a group at a target pace. We will try to cover the same routes, albeit a shorter distance for the slower group, so if you're struggling or want to ride at an easier pace, you can move back to a slower group. If you're already in the slowest group, the ride leader will check to make sure you can make your way back alone or with another volunteer. You'll know within the first 7 miles whether or not you're strong enough to maintain the pace. The general rule is that you should be able to maintain at least a 19+mph pace for the A Group, 18mph pace for 40-50 miles with the B+ Group or a 16mph pace for 30-40 miles with the B Group, when considering which group to ride with. If you can not maintain these paces, then it is suggested that you consider the C/B- Sunday ride. (Please refer to the link above). Each group should make a concerted effort to keep the group together but there will always be those who want to pick up the pace on the return. It is more appropriate to do this the last 5-7 miles of a ride. The short hammer sessions, that are always inevitable during our rides, will not be affected. To find out more about pacelines, please read the link below. http://www.raleighgyros.com/training.htm Thanks, Tony --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you foolishly subscribed to the Gyro email group.
