Greetings Gyros,

I will be at the NCSU/USC game on Thursday so I will not be able to lead the
ride this thursday. Hopefully, Carol, Hal or Steve will be available to take
over and lead the ride. Last week we had several new riders and a very
unorganized ride. The thursday ride was set up for a couple reasons: as a
recovery ride from the weeks hard rides and a cool down for the upcoming fast
weekend rides;

and as a learning and training opportunity for less experienced group riders.

This week, please remember to keep the pace constant (18mph avg), keep the
group in a tight formation on all climbs except Mt. Vernon and Raven Ridge
which are free for alls, and limit the surging on the climbs.

Something that has always helped me is the fact that it takes a well
disciplined rider to be able to control their pace and ride at a slower pace
than it is for a less experianced rider to accelerate off the front and surge
up climbs.

Have fun and I'll see you next week.

David
