I realize that you were being facetious regarding leaving work early, but I am
not sure if this extended to your question on our commitment to 23. Let's
assume that this was a legitimate concern since it is a good one.

The Tuesday ride has had a philosophical shift that is no longer conducive to
this goal. This is most likely due to my lack of leadership in keeping the
original idea alive. I simply did not participate in enough rides during the
peak of the season, and Tony and Bert had to fill in.

The point system and race for the primes just sort of fizzled out. We now ride
the entire way together sans attacks. We do ride hard, for the most part, but
things have slowed down for sure.

That is one reason.

The other reason is that in order to break a speed record we need our speed
guys to show up! Although we had very good riders the last 2 rides we were
missing most of our studs. Like you, for example! And Steve, Logan, Tom, Grey,
and so on.

The goal of 23 has been shelved for the year, and we now turn to night rides!
These are a lot of fun, and with so much climbing in the final miles they are
also a great workout with plenty of attacks. Keil took it to us last night when
he just exploded up Covered Bridge, and we were all working hard to catch his
wheel. And, then Tony took it to us on the final climbs. It was great.

Hopefully you can make our night rides.

Rick
