Mike, Thanks for allowing me to post to the club because, as you say, maybe someone can do something more significant to take care of this problem. Btw, it is the Bailey house and it was Doug who warned me. Tony, In three weekday group rides last year we were chased on Norwood by a large brown dog with a white tipped tail. When I say chased I mean out in the road and 50 yards up the hill. This dog came from the driveway at 14020 Norwood which is the first drive on the right past the bridge as you ride toward Six Forks. Three times I called Wake Co. Sherriff's dept., 856-6911 which handles calls for animal control. Eventually, a control officer returned my call on his way to the property to warn the residents. I informed him that the name of the property owner was Bailey. I have several times after that ridden by and no dog was seen, so until now the problem was solved. Two days ago, after speaking with my friend Doug concerning a dog again out in the road at the same address, I called Wake Co. Sherriff's dept. and asked for Ms. Banning, the current control officer, to call me regarding the dog. I have received no callback. Perhaps someone in the club has some pull with Wake Co. and can affect a permanent resolution. You may, if you wish, broadcast my comments. Mike _____ From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Tony Sent: Wednesday, April 07, 2010 6:56 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [Gyros: 15213] DOG WARNING on NORWOOD! G's, A rider came into the shop yesterday and asked that I warn everyone about an aggressive dog who has bothered cyclists in the past, went into hiding for the winter months and is back out harrassing cyclists again. I know some of you have encountered this dog before and I know that Animal Control has been called several times. The dog is on Norwood Road at the bottom of the hill near the bridge between Six Forks and the "Registry" development just before Mt. Vernon. Evidently, this dog has come out at this cyclist twice within the last 5 days and was very aggressive. So much so, that the cyclist was close to riding off the shoulder to avoid colliding with this dog during the last incident. Again, he is very aggressive. The house is set back from the road and has a long driveway. Like a troll, this dog awaits it's next victim sitting quietly in the driveway. Are you ready for this? This cyclist called Animal Control and they said that they couldn't do anything except warn the owners. The officer told the cyclist that they only way they can pursue charges is that the dog would have to bite the cyclist and the cyclist would have to take pictures to prove that that dog made the attack. Unbelievable! What is their job anyway? (Please, do not start a discussion about this). This cyclist is calling the owners to speak to them. He is going to keep me posted and I will do the same. I would ask that all riders coming down Norwood proceed with caution as you get to the bottom of the hill. I don't know if this will be resolved or not but please be careful as you scream down Norwood at high speeds and could potentially meet this mutt face to face.
