Kudos to you for taking the initiative and reporting this "driver from hell." Too many times cyclists let incidents like this slide and then the offending motorist becomes even more emboldened.
Although there was no "contact" between the truck and the cyclists as you reported, every cyclist on the ride should inspect their bikes for damage that could have occurred while taking evasive action to avoid the truck. If you only find even a wheel out of true or a cut tire, you can file a small claims action against the motorist. You have his plate number so finding out who he is and where he lives would be easy. Any judge or magistrate would find in your favor with the number of witnesses present. For a small filing fee you could jerk this jerk around for months over a $50 tire. This guy opened the door, be sure to take advantage of it.
