What to do next time you have a violent encounter with road rage while cycling
according to Deputy Sheriff Stell, Wake County Sheriff Department:
he provided me with the phone number that connects directly to his dispatch:
919-856-6911. Call this number anytime you have a situation were you are
threatened by a driver and they will dispatch a deputy. I was told that a
deputy is always in the Six forks/Raven Ridge area so they will respond pretty
quick and intercept them. We didn't know this last night, 911 dispatched the
SHP instead so save this number in your cell phones. I won't forget my phone
again. Remember, 911 will only dispatch who they think is the best responder,
usually SHP, so save this number and use it instead.
Next, he stated that if you have any contact with the vehicle, get the license
number, if possible and call the SHP and report a hit and run. They will have
to file an accident report which will require the SHP to visit the driver while
he is having supper with this lovely little family safe inside their home away
from other crazy drivers like themselves.
Meanwhile, Deputy Stell will be stopping by the drivers home today to have some
words with him. If he can't find him he said he would look out for him on the
road and pull him over to have words with him. The real surprise is the deputy
wanted to know when we ride so he could make sure he is in the area when we
ride so I told him about our Monday and Thursday Trek store ride schedule.
Tough lessons learned. Hope this helps.
