This has always been a great ride and one that everyone should do to learn
and improve.

Subject: [Gyros: 15696] Wednesday ride report...really!
I finally made it to Andy's world famous Wednesday ride (just
barely...thanks Andy for staying back with me until I got it all together).
We had a very nice group of 9 riders, and, Andy does a great job of keeping
his ride in control. He teaches, points out little hints, and, scolds those
who dare deviate from the plan. He has no favorites...I got scolded, Hardy
got scolded, Fernando got scolded...
About 2/3rds of the way into the ride I told Andy that this was the most fun
that I have had on a bike in a very long time. What makes it fun is that
once we hit Patterson Andy takes the ride to rotating pacelines at varying
speeds for the remainder of the ride.
And, he monitors the skill levels of all riders; slowing things down if some
riders are falling a bit behind. I was a bit tired from yesterday having
taught a spin class at noon, and then doing my Tuesday speed-fest; but, I
was able to easily handle his pace because we all shared the work at a nice
even effort.
There were a couple of changes since the last time I did this ride (last
year). We did not sprint the county line, and, things really picked up going
up Olive Branch. Andy and Hardy cranked it up that climb; then they waited
for us at the top, and, when they got rolling again they took us by surprise
by having no mercy up Carpenter Pd.!
With tongue securely against cheek, I announce his ride as the Jekyll and
Hyde Ride. Soft and re-assuring for 33 miles...scolding those who creep a
millionth of a tenth of a mile faster than the group's current pace,
sounding like Mother Theresa in his tone and demeanor.
And, then, the moon comes out and he is the Wolfman. Bye-bye my children.
See you in the parking lot.
Of course I kid. It was a fun ride, and, it was nice to kick it up a bit at
the end. I hope to make the Jekyll and Hyde Ride every Wednesday.
Rick
