Leslie, I'm new to riding with the Gyros, trying to figure out where I belong, and reluctant to offer too many opinions. But since you've asked, here's my online response. My first ride was your May 22nd ride where I finished in the middle of the group with an average of 16.5 mph. It was a great ride, hard enough for me to feel like I'd done a little work, but at a pace where I could chat and enjoy the company of others while riding. My wife and I were gone for a couple of weeks biking in Europe, so I didn't have a chance to ride again until this past Saturday's B-ride. I felt I was just hanging on for most of the ride; never took a pull, and while I finished with an average of 18.1 mph behind the lead group, I felt I had ridden about as hard as I could. While I enjoyed the ride and appreciated the stronger riders waiting to keep the small group (7 and then 9) riders together, it wasn't as much fun as the May 22nd ride. I'm comfortable with both of your suggestions but do hope a 16-17 mph B ride can be preserved. My inclination is that your first suggestion will have the most appeal since the fastest riders will be able to enjoy finishing in the lead (probably not the case if they ride with the A- group), while the rest of us can enjoy a more convivial 16-17 mph pace. I certainly agree that in the case of option 1 someone in the B+ group should step up to take the lead. I really do appreciate your leadership in working to keep a true B level ride viable.
