Reporting in for Rick: The ride was clearly one of heat attrition. I will mention that within 5 minutes of the start when we turned left on Carpenter Pond, Tony and I had to bridge a large gap and that really isn't the way to start out going into lactic toxicity so soon. And then, I do have to comment that it seems a few riders used traffic turns to create breaks in the group. We need to work on that so we don't ride unsafely just to stay together as a group.

After Patterson, it seemed that someone dropped off from the group unannounced on each segment until there was just a few of us left at the finish. And most of the riders I spoke with said they felt ill (heat exhaustion) at the end of the ride so it's clear we need to ride some more tempo rides in the heat and build our tolerances of the heat so we don't cause that puke feeling or more significantly, real heat exhaustion.

I'd like to point out that a new rider, John, on his tri-bike was very strong and pulled a few stretches when we all thought we were toasted giving us the much need rest and incentive to at least stay with the new guy. It's great to see new riders, and strong ones at that, joining the group.

This will be a very unusual ride report; for me, anyway. Short...with no
investigative reporting.

I am trying to get back my form, and have been doing group rides every night plus teaching spin classes (I know...here come the excuses!!). I will suffer now to ride better later!
Anyway, my legs went dead just before we hit Patterson, so I dropped back. Oh
well...I saw my friend Keil looking back, but realized I was fading
badly...thanks, Keil. I know that you would have wanted to help me get back
on...

Ok...enough about my situation. It was a nice group tonight with some new riders, and, another strange situation where we caught up to the fast boys from Kicks on Cheek. It just would not follow cycling etiquette for the Gyros to pass the All-Stars, etc., just because they were tempo riding tonight. So we rode in their slipstream until Hereford. There was nothing out of the ordinary for tonight's ride; I believe that we rode faster last week. No breaks, no attacks. At least there weren't any up Patterson to 98. What happened after that would need to be reported by the lead riders.
Maybe someday we will actually finish up Kemp...I cannot wait until that
stretch of road is paved...

I want to welcome the new riders, and hope to see you all back again next week.

Rick
