To my Gyro teammates, friends and fellow cyclists,

I want to thank everyone for their kind words and expressions of
caring and support. It really has helped me more than you know this
past week.

Thank you to my West Coast daughter, Amy, for posting the original
message about my accident and letting everyone know how I was doing
and keeping tabs on me. Thanks to my East Coast daughter, Emily, for
helping out. To Faith, my Midwest daughter, who is in medical school
- thanks for checking up on me and consulting with the local “experts”
at the University of Chicago. And to my wife, Robin, a special thank
you for taking such excellent care of the old fart this past week.

I have two broken ribs, a left shoulder that has separated from the
clavicle, many damaged ribs making it hard to breathe and the usual
assortment "attractive" bruises. It could have been much worse.

Tomorrow I go back in the hospital for surgery. Dr. Singh plans to
try and put my shoulder back where it belongs. He is confident the
operation will be successful. I will have to wind back the clock on
my recovery a bit so it may be a while before you hear from me
directly but I will do my best to stay in touch.

I am typing this with one hand as my left arm is in a sling and not
very functional, so my apologies for the shortness of this message.

Be safe.

All the best,

Gary
