It is an awesome ride, I did it twice, but to be eligible I believe one still has to do the "Assault on Marion" (72 miles) then one can be eligible for the Mitchell deal. Yes I had to join the cycling club in SC (the name is in the website) in order to get a spot. It sells pretty fast. I rode it with compact cranks and a 12/27 casette. Doing some mountain rides in the Blue Ridge parkway helped. Good luck, Fernando
