Keep in mind sunrise is at 6:08 tomorrow, when the temperature will be a
frigid 77 degrees....

Subject: [Gyros: 17449] Risk vs. Reward: using the metaphorical scale

Active outdoor people (this is not the same as competitive, and/or
professional athletes) always face this dilemma: do I exercise when the heat
is in the lunatic fringe, or, should I take it inside where my air
conditioner is?

Accordingly, we all utilize the metaphorical scale where on one side we have
"Risk", and, the other we have "Reward". As we list all of the risk factors
we toss them in the risk basket on our scale. We then list all of the
rewards and toss them in the other basket.

The side that the scale leans to is the deciding factor.

RISK: Heat stress

REWARD: Time in the saddle

In most cases the risk of experiencing a heat stress related issue is far
outweighed by quality time in the saddle. But, this is not most cases. The
heat index is in the dangerous zone, and outdoor activities should be
limited if not necessary.

You do not gain much in your training, in fact, you use most of your energy
attempting to sustain your core temperature. Great for acclimation, but, do
we really need it? Not at the levels that we ride at (nothing personal).

Eliminating the heat factor by going indoors allows for more energy for your
ride. You would receive a better training effect if you train indoors. Pure
logic makes this a no-brainer.

SUMMATION: Based on this evidence, it is clear that the scale leans toward
RISK, and, it is time to set up the Fluid trainer and ride indoors.

REALITY: I am heading out to ride. Screw the trainer.

I never said that cyclists used logic when we are faced with that 2-wheeled
conveyance.
