EZ way to find the hilly road by covered bridge, (Mountbatten).>

Take Norwood towards St. Francis church. About 1/2 mile before the
intersection, (light) at Ray Road you will see Hawthorne neighborhood sign.

Take a right into the neighborhood and then take first left and you will
end at the bottom of the climb by a decorative covered bridge. You can do
hill repeats from there. Careful cars can sneak up on you from the right as
you climb. The climb is about 1/3 of a mile and very steep for about 200
yards.

I just go up and down Mountbatten rather than cruise the neighborhood which
is pretty busy most of the time.

Another fun hill is Boyce Mill Road from 98 to Old Creedmoor RD. The
pavement is a bit uneven but the climb is not as steep but longer than
Mountbatten and much less traffic.

Red zone anyone??

it is an approximately 1.5mi figure 8 loop thru a neighborhood off Norwood /
Victory Church, I believe called "Hawthorne" (about miles 8-9 on the
attached gmap). It encompasses a short very steep climb up Mountabatten
beginning under (I believe) the only covered bridge in Raleigh. It can be
done in various permutations, but I was planning on N.Hawthorne / R.
Warwickshire / R. N. Hawthorne / L. Wharton's Way / L. Mountbatten / L. N.
Hawthorne and repeat (until your legs give out or you throw up). Rumor has
it, that if you do this repeatedly you can climb like Tony or Steve. Hasn't
worked for me yet, though. Probably just Gyro folklore.

So what is/where is this covered bridge? I've heard this over and over, but
have never risen this. Is this a hill or something?

Moderate stick together intensity up the first 4 hills (Mt. Vernnon, Melvin
Arnold, Old Creedmore, Glenfiddich)
4 covered bridge figure 8's
Probably a scamper up the OB and Boyce Mill (wait at top)
Rotating pace line down Coley if > 3 people show (this one's kinda tricky by

Nb: gmap total reads 30mi d/t ony one covered bridge loop included with 3
more x 1.5 = 4.5mi
rain, hurricanes and earthquakes cancell the ride

Yip-yip,
