oh, oh! what a wonderful question!

I've been looking for velvet ribbon to repair the edges of a beloved blanket
for just ages! My mother put on the current edging well over 40 years ago, and
I have been looking for quite a while! Sure hope someone's got some sources!
Ribbon needs to be around 3 inches wide to cover both sides of the edge. And
maybe 6 yards, to do both the top and bottom edge. Blanket has a short, fuzzy
surface on both sides; BOTH the old and new blankets were the exact same pale
yellow color!

I think my mother probably went into her quilting scraps for the material
that's on the blanket now; there's no real selvedge and she zig-zagged both
sides down. This light brown velvet is lovely soft stuff, as soft and nice as
the blanket itself. Has only started showing breakdown along the fold in the
last few years.

Of course, I also wish I could replace the body of the blanket too! we got one
sort of like it for a wedding present (ca. 30 years ago) but the "new" one was
threadbare in a few washes! The "old" one still has a remarkable amount of the
original surface, but is slowly (30+ years!) washing away too. It's been used
by my son since he was very small, and is still his favorite! Sheet and this
blanket are as cool or as warm as necessary for almost the whole year (except
dead of winter, gets one more layer). Shoot, so many of my best bedding pieces
are ancient and wearing like iron! If I could find a source I'd get 2! one to
replace the one on son's bed, one for parent's! This blanket is one of the
things my mother sent me off with to college, I think!

thx all!
