Bjarne:

Yes, I also think "what is the world coming to" more the older I get,
but also try to keep in mind that there has always been something out
there to fear might kill us. Just think of what would have gone on if,
say, during the Black Death of 1347-51, there had been today's
technology and news media to cover it.

Plus, in those times, everyone was more aware that death could come at
any time, and quite suddenly. It is really with the advent of
sophisticated medical technology that those of us in industrialized
countries do expect to live long, healthy lives.

To keep this on a costuming bent, terrorists seem to have certain things
they like to wear(like many robbers, they like to wear hoods or ski
masks to hide their identity, and dress in dark colors or fatiques)and
perhaps other clothing will become popular or unpopular if a terrorist
is pictured wearing such. And some of us may start wearing some kind of
anti-bomb protective clothing with no more thought than the fact we don
clothing to fit the seasons or a day's event.

Anyone want to speculate on Future Wear? For instance will fear of
developing skin cancer return us to wearing natural fabric clothing that
covers more of the body with hats and gloves becoming expected wear?
Will untanned skin become fashionable again as a sign you take the extra
time to hide your skin from the sun? Or will we continue to bare more
skin and use more sophisticated sunscreens, while persuing the ultimate
"safe" fake(healthy) tan?
