I'm in the middle of remaking a large straw hat into something more suitable
for the 16thC. The crown is too tall and too square as it is, but I have
only got to the unravelling stage;)

If you look at the bottom of this page
http://www.costumes.org/history/100pages/timelinepages/1870s1.htm
and the top of this page
http://www.costumes.org/history/100pages/timelinepages/1880s1.htm
you should see some nice examples of hats and bonnets of the time period you
are doing. There is generally a bit more fluffiness.. and if I could just
find the links page for the victorian links which seems to have completely
fallen offline.... Anyway, Tara had a page on hats and bonnets from exactly
the time you are doing, but I cannot find it as the links page has gone down
and there are no links to it elsewhere.

It's actually rather a later hairstyle than you are after. The good news is
that the hair could be tidied away to keep safe from your bowstring.

There are some very pretty styles there that would work well with the style
of hat and dress you have made:) And some that are similar to what you have
done, but in an earlier style.
