Hello all,
This is a 'Plantive Cry for Help' ....
Can anyone out there direct me to a site or give me some hints on the
best way to construct the giant hoop skirt needed for Mother Ginger in
Nutcracker? The director would like a wide 18th Century oval/pannier
style that is big enough to hide 10 to 13 small children under it.
(Mother herself will be standing on a ladder under the dress and will be
pulled across the stage on a dolly.) Low cost and speed of construction
is, as always, a major consideration. What would be sturdy enough not
to twist? Or is that helped by putting actual panniers on the "hips"?
Storage through the rest of the year is also problematic. If I used
the hoop connectors from Farthingales and their hoop steel, could I take
it apart after the performances and store it in pieces?

I'd greatly appreciate any help from anyone who's done this costume or
even peeked inside one!

Thanks
Kathy Hoover
