The question posted earlier got me thinking that I need a dress form too. I know very little about them except that they can be quite useful. Which ones are the easiest to work with and adjust, and are some more compatible with adjustments for certain body types? Specifically - short back/long hip, small rib cage and waist but broad shoulders and largish bust.

I took a quick peek online at Hancocks and they currently have one on sale for $99. This brought up the questions as this basic one doesn't look like it would adjust very well to what is required. The Prym-Dritz twin fit looks like it might be more amenable to the proper measurements.

I'm looking for one that would be appropriate for both costuming and 'modern' clothing.

What all is out there and what have been everyone's experiences? What would be considered a reasonable price?

I know a lot of people prefer them, but I really cannot get on with adjustable stands, The gap in front is always where I want to put pins. I personally recommend buying a stand one size smaller than you actually need and padding it with batting, or fleece, till it is the same shape as you, then covering with an old T-shirt.

As a professional maker I only have three sizes, all solid. One is tiny, one medium, and one large, plus one male, medium, stand. These work for all the different sizes I have to cater for, with padding.

As I am in the U.K. there is no point in me recommending a particular brand. I hope that helps you make your decision.
