In order to extend the life of a dress, one can take it apart, turn the pieces inside out, and turn the skirt top to bottom and back to front as well, then sew it back together. That way the faded outside is turned inside, and the worn parts are put in places where the fading/wear is not as obvious. It's a sign of extreme poverty to turn a dress a second time.
