You can get real fresh water pearls very inexpensively from Fire
Mountain or
Rio Grande jewelry catalogues. I believe a 16" strand was about $4-$6.
I can get them at local bead shops for about the same price. Hancock
fabrics is carrying them atm, but the quantity price is not very good.
It might be worth your time to call around town before you mail order.
