Sort of...professional furriers will tumble the fur in a barrel filled with
some sort of media such as walnut shells or sawdust, that has been charged
with a cleaning solution. Then the media is vacuumed out of the fur, and the
fur is steamed and pressed between rollers that line up and fluff the hairs.
I don't know if simple cornmeal will do the trick. Worth a try I guess,
depending on how valuable the fur is.
I was always shown to clean fur with wheatmeal, or corn meal. For
small items of white fur, my grandma used white breadcrumbs - yuck -
they came out grey!
Be sure to give the coat a thorough shaking, even a beating, outdoors
after using a food product though, otherwise there are a lot of
little beasties that would just love to have a nibble!
