Why would the "closed up neckline" be 'verboten'? I wear a

When you work for other people, as I do, you go with what they want.
They are paying money to wear what they want. You may well be
perfectly comfortable is a doublet bodice. My customer does not want
that style. The other five ladies all have open necklines, and my
customer wants a similar style, but would prefer not to wear a ruff
or partlet. My job is to do the research and produce the goods. I was
therefore asking if anyone could help with my research.
It does not matter to me what other people choose to wear - that is
their personal choice. My own choice is a loose gown, but I would not
try to persuade a customer to wear one if they did not like it. The
"closed-up neckline" is only "verboten" as far as this customer is concerned.
