It's me again.

Was looking at my book this AM. Just to drive home that I do not hate this
book or anything, and having gotten over the disappointments I had about it, I
thought I'd point out some [more] things I like, beside those great pictorial
 instructions for men's hose.

Remember the dress with the annoyingly just off, miss-matched back? [pg.
110] Looking at it this morning, I find it one of the most convincing costumes
in the book. [Hey...the veil covers the back anyway] The scale and proportions
are harmonious and the yardages seem fine. The fabrics are OK [but almost a
little too curtain-like....a real problem for designers these days. I once
heard a criticism of "Dangerous Liaisons" that "they all looked like they were
wearing curtains."]. And one thing I admire is how these girls really get that
Henry VIII female silhouette right. Not an easy silhouette either.

The man's costume that looks the most real to me is on page 103...the white
doublet with the red paned hosen. Very good work [though I don't like that
brown lining to the hosen]. Not a fancy garment but again good proportions and
it looks livable. Much better than the fancy-schmancy outfit on page 98, with
it's sloppy canions and sagging jerkin.

Oops! got negative there for a minute. Sorry.

Being someone who has worked on period films and in lots of theatres, as
well as made things out of the dinning room for community events, I'd
definitely
keep this book around the shop. If you had experienced people [even
moderately so] they could pick this volume up and churn out a very nice
garment for
that costume they just added at the last minute....right from the book. And
even for that gown you have 3 week to do, this book is a good place to start.
Most of my complaints have to do with personal taste, and simply changing
fabrics, or adding yardage fixes most of those.
