Two years ago the Metropolitan Museum of Art had an exibition "Dangerous Liasions: Fashion and Furniture in the 18th century" and a companion book was promised.
Now the book is out, published by the Met in tandem with Yale University Press. I locked in the price of my copy at $13.95 preordered from Amazon.com last year and it is here! For all of you 18th fashion lovers, the book is a visual feast of mannikins posed in 18th clothes in recreated rooms, living la vie l'amour in various stages from awaiting a love letter to flirtation to very close encounters of the sexual kind. Drool worthy fashions and settings with the added addition of tie-in artwork from the Met's collection and essays documenting the stages of love in each room at different times of the day. The book was actualized in hardcover, instead of paperback at a higher price now, but for those awaitng the Marie Antoinette film, even if we can just critique it to death for what they got wrong, this is the real deal. Best price is at Amazon.com There is a stunning, ombre woven dress in the book where the original fabric could walk down the runway today in a modern designed outfit and look stunning!
