Acrually, we can make it costume related in two ways. :)

One is, where they mention the masks and robes that are worn by the
order in the basement of the grandfather, seeing how they depict
that and finding references to such 'attaire' in historical books. I
remember when harry potter first came out and everyone wanted to
know the basis of the professors robes. So there is your costume tie
in. :)

The other one would be that since we here on this list are so widely
varied in background and knowledge some of us must know of other
mailing lists where they are holding discussions about the phenomina
that is covered by these books and movies.

If we start gathering a collection of links to those discussion
boards and lists we can refer anyone that comes here with more
questions that are not really costume related to those lists of our
archives where they can find the posts.

Sound reasonable?
