Hi Marc,

Generally Rev War events, at least on the East coast, have
participants organized in military units. Is it a battle event? If
so, then it's probably mostly reenactment units. The organization is
important for safety and "walk on" participants are discouraged.

In which case, whatever unit you're participating with can advise you
on clothing, and may well have some loaner things for you to wear.
It may be different depending on who has invited you.

If you're going with someone who is a sutler (merchant), then they
also can advise you.

Most events in this area are open to the public, so participants are
expected to interpret. And there does not tend to be a fee for
individuals, instead the units receive some copensation for their
participation.

As far as a coat, again this depends on what you are doing at the
event. Military, militia, civilian? You could get by with a fairly
uncomplicated sleeved waistcoat.

There are market fairs and roundevous events that are more relaxed,
more for reenactors than the public, may charge a participant fee,
etc.

Check again with the event organizers to see what it will be like,
and then you'll have a better idea what to expect.

     -Carol
