I'm looking for a rather wide hood like on the links I wrote before - surely they must be tall, but the question is, should they be gathered or pleated at the neck or not. One thing I really can't think out is this kind of hood: http://www.cloaksofireland.com/Kerry.htm it looks quite Ok with me but the gathering in the middle of the back part surprises me. How could such a pattern look like?

If you want one that lays on the shoulders, you need to make it taller, so that the extra length on the sides of the head can relax onto the shoulders. If you don't want a point in back, then round it off.
