I'm halfway between:) Physical limitations mean I would dearly love to have
someone else do the hard work for me;) But I'm a stubborn goat and want
things made by myself. I'm not exactly sure why, but I don't want to wear
something someone else made and be complimented about it, egotistical maybe,
more likely the ugly duckling syndrome and never feeling like I grew into a
swan;) On the other hand, I know my shape and what my body will and will not
look good in and it's usually not what someone else wants;) But that's half
design half construction methods.

As for most things in this world I cannot find a single start. I can find
lots of events that lead to me taking up costuming as an art. As a kid I
drew pretty dresses and superhero costumes and occasionally made felt
animals, puppets, dolls etc and as a teen I was most inspired by two
costumer designers (Maria Bjornson and Eiko, worls apart yet both strive for
visualisation of character and mood) and dreamt about making things like
that eventually.

It wasn't until 1994 that I actually put fabric to machine to sew up a
costume rather than cobble it together or make something for a doll (OOAK
polymer clay dolls at that stage.)

And it wasn't until I got sick that I really got into production and to a
level I consider at least reasonable. Which is perhaps ironic given that I
have a degenerative joint disease and this sewing lark is only going to last
so long;)
