I agree with the folks who are ambilvalent about Walmart. We had a fabric store here in town until Walmart opened; a year later the fabric store was gone. I must say, though, that fabric store didn't seem to be paying much attention to what its customers wanted, it seemed like the owner just bought to her taste, and the attendants were weirdly snobby.
Walmart, on the other hand, has a weirdly wonderful array of stuff, especially on the bargain table, like pillowcase material that says MEDIUM MEDIUM MEDIUM, tempting me to whomp up a psychic's costume, or the bolt of perfect for 1850's jewel toned plaid taffeta I snagged the other day for $1 a yard. But when I need one yard of half inch wide black grosgrain ribbon, and they're out of it, I have to drive 35 miles to get it. This with gas at $3.25 a gallon, ouch!
