I need some bright ideas. I'm planning to make my own goldwork embroidery trim, by embroidering some heavy silk satin ribbon; I'll be doing it both on some 5/8" wide and some 1" wide ribbon. The embroidery is going to be a continuous design, and longer than any frames I've seen, so I won't be able to fit it into a normal embroidery frame without wrecking it. I thought of pinning it to a pillow, but I can't figure out any practical way to do that without accidentally embroidering into the pillow itself. Ideas?
Also, long ago I did graphic design for an embroidery company. To back the embroidery, one of the things they used was a type of interfacing that dissolved when sprayed with water. Does anyone know the name of this stuff, or brand names of something similar but perhaps a bit more substantial? The ribbon is black, and all the traditional methods I've experimented with to mark the design just did not work well; there's too much fiddly detail in the design for anything that actually shows up. I'm hoping to mark the design on an easily removeable interfacing instead.
