What I am thinking of
doing is using a wooden busk that ends where the curve begins.

Remember wood is very pliable and reacts as such to heat and moisture. Even
a straight wooden busk would curve after a while of body heat and humidity.
But I understand your reservations about movement. Would someone at the hearth
wear such a corset?

Anyway, You might want to consider putting some 1/4" flexible steel boning
each side of the wood that does go to the bottom of the corset. Or some
plastic. Something that gives a bit but will keep things smooth to the bottom.
