I normally just lurk but, I have just had to go through this same problem
with a doublet I spent over 6 months hand beading for a gentleman that was
stationed in Iraq. When he got back to the states, he had gained quite a
bit of weight through working out everyday. Letting out my back side seams
as far as they would go was not enough. I had some of the original material
left so I beaded that and inserted a section down each side of the front of
the doublet to make it a slashed doublet. This left the front closure
centered and intact. Don't know if this will work for you but, my friend
was thrilled with the result. He ended up with a garnet beaded and slashed
doublet. Now I just have to finish his matching pants.
