I think I used lighter fluid to do that.

I have a beginners' class making stays, and am nearly ready to cut lengths
of steel boning. I find that my tipping solution ( for dipping the ends of
the steel to prevent rust) has thickened to the point of unusability. Does
anyone have suggestions for thinning the tipping solution?
