Depends on what you mean by tight. More like close fitting. Pattern cut on
the bias of the fabric.

Though you will find some sort of "pants" prior to the middle ages in
Northern Europe but you will find that the hosen (for some reason unknown to
me) was popular in that region during the middle ages.

  As I said, I've never paid much attention to the leg wear, I knew only
that very tight hosen were worn during the later middle ages. I thought
peasants and working people wore something more comfortable, but - now after
re-searching in all my pictures- it seems I was wrong... oops, I really have
a gap on that topic...

  I'm interested in 12-14c middle and western Europe, like Anglo-Saxon and
around. Not southern Europe like Spain and Italy.
