That would explain it then. I did switch to some wool flannel that
was also going to need some dying. So I put the dye pot on the stove
with my strip of flannel, let the color get to where I wanted it to,
then started the rinsing it in cold water and rubbing against the
broiler pan. there was another dip back into the hot water of the dye
pot and rinse again in color water.

Fulled and dyed and as soon as it dries, it will be ready to cut up
for little doll shoes.

Anybody have recommendations on the style of shoe a German girl of the
mid to late 16th century would wear?

It sounds like the original poster is doing something quite similar to what
I do to felt my knitted flat caps--lots of soap, and alternating between
shocking the [EMAIL PROTECTED] out of it with very hot water and very cold
water. I've
primarily used vigorous rubbing to achieve the agitation part, but someone
on a list I'm on actually recommended getting an inexpensive toilet plunger
(carefully marked for fabric use only!), and using that to agitate one's
fabric/knitting/project.
